BMW Motorrad service
in Cascais.

Independent BMW workshop for R-, K-, S-, F- and G-series. Diagnostics, scheduled service, repair and tuning by the team that won the BMW Motorrad Customizing Championship 2023.

Why bring your BMW to us

BMW-first expertise, independent rates.

Iron Custom Motors is an independent BMW Motorrad workshop in Cascais, run by the same team that took the BMW Motorrad Customizing Championship 2023 — BMW's own recognition for engineering and build quality. The bikes we win trophies with and the bike you drop off for a service get the same pair of hands and the same standard.

We work across the whole BMW Motorrad range — the boxer R-series, the parallel-twin F-series, the single-cylinder G-series, the inline-four S-series and the inline-six K-series. Every platform has its own habits and weak spots, and we know them because we have these bikes in the workshop week in, week out. This is BMW-first expertise, not a general shop that happens to take BMWs.

Independent also means no dealer mark-up, the freedom to fit OEM or quality aftermarket parts as the job actually calls for, and a straight conversation throughout. You get an estimate before we start and a written report when we hand the bike back.

Specialist tooling

BMW-specific diagnostic and tools.

BMW Motorrad asks for tools most independent workshops simply don't own — so we bought them. That's the line between a real BMW shop and a workshop that occasionally takes one in.

GS-911 diagnostic interface

Reads and clears BMW-specific fault codes, runs adaptive resets, and shows live sensor data and service indicators.

BMW ISTA / dealer-level diagnostics

Where it's needed, we run dealer-equivalent diagnostic procedures to reach the deeper system menus a generic scanner never sees.

Paralever and Telelever tooling

The proper pre-load and alignment tools for BMW's front and rear suspension geometry — not improvised substitutes.

ESA suspension service kit

Spring compressor and the correct replacement procedure for Electronic Suspension Adjustment (ESA) dampers.

What we do on BMW

Service. Repair. Tune.

From an Inspection 1 to a full ground-up rebuild of a vintage airhead — all of it done with BMW-specific knowledge and the right tooling.

01

Scheduled service (Inspection 1 / 2)

BMW interval service — oil, filter, fluids, brake check, final-drive inspection, plus valve clearance when the interval calls for it.

02

Valve clearance — boxer / parallel-twin / single

Done properly with feeler gauges and shim selection where the engine needs it. R-series boxer, F-series, G-series.

03

Final drive service

Gear oil change, swingarm bearing inspection and a Paralever pre-load check — the work that keeps a GS, RT or R-series final drive alive for the long haul.

04

ABS Pro / Integral ABS bleed

A full bleed of BMW's integrated ABS. A standard brake bleed won't move the fluid where it needs to go here — it takes the proper BMW procedure.

05

Boxer engine tune-up

Throttle-body sync, idle stabilisation, air-mass meter calibration and spark plug service — the boxer running as smooth as it should.

06

Suspension service

ESA, Telelever and Paralever maintenance — fork seal replacement, oil change, sag setup, rebound and compression tuning. While the wheels are off, we can also handle tyre fitting and balancing for wide BMW rubber and spoked GS rims, including tubeless-spoked and custom wheel setups.

07

Electrical diagnostics

Full fault-code reading and live data with the GS-911. Battery, charging, CAN-bus and accessory wiring repair.

08

Tuning and upgrades

Exhaust fitment with the matching ECU re-flash (Akrapovič, Wilbers, Öhlins), suspension upgrades, ergonomics, protection and touring kit.

Typical issues we know

BMW failure patterns, solved before they bite.

Years on these bikes mean we know their weak points by heart. We check the high-risk items up front, not after they let go on a tour.

Boxer valve clearance drift

Common on the R 1200 and earlier — we know when the clearances genuinely need measuring versus when the dealer is just ticking a box.

Final drive bearing wear

Early symptoms on the R 1200/1250 GS and RT — caught with a proper play check before the bevel box gives up.

ABS / brake assist faults

Servo-motor and pump faults on older R-series. We diagnose and repair them where a dealer would swap the whole module.

Final-drive splines & paralever joints

We strip, clean, regrease and renew where worn — the service interval most dealers quietly skip.

Battery / charging on K1600 and R 1250

Alternator-regulator faults and low-charge symptoms — we read the full battery management with BMW-grade diagnostics.

FAQ

Common questions.

Are you an authorized BMW dealer?
No — Iron Custom Motors is an independent BMW Motorrad workshop. The upside is no dealer mark-up and the freedom to fit OEM or quality aftermarket parts. Recall and warranty work has to be done at an authorized BMW dealer, but everything else — scheduled service, repair, modifications — we handle at independent-workshop rates and with deeper, BMW-first attention.
Do you have proper BMW diagnostic equipment?
Yes. We run the GS-911 (BMW's own diagnostic interface) and BMW ISTA / dealer-equivalent procedures where they apply. We read codes, run adaptive resets, watch live sensor data and write up what we find. Diagnostic fee 50–350€ depending on depth, with a written report.
How much does an Inspection 2 / valve service cost?
From €350, depending on the platform and what your bike actually needs. For an R 1250 GS / GSA at its valve interval, expect €450–€650 including all fluids, valve check and throttle-body sync. You get a written estimate before we lift a wrench.
Can you do track-day prep for S 1000 RR?
Yes — suspension setup, brake line and pad upgrade, slick fitment, ride-height and ECU map tuning for the circuit. We have the dyno and the suspension-setup tools to dial it in properly.
Can you source OEM BMW parts not stocked locally?
Yes — we have catalog access to OEM BMW Motorrad parts through our distributor network plus all the major aftermarket catalogs. If a part exists for your model, we can source it.
