Royal Enfield service
in Cascais.

Independent Royal Enfield workshop for the 350 and 450 singles, the 650 twins and the classic Bullets. Diagnostics, scheduled service, valve and tappet work, custom builds and restoration — by a team with a genuine engineering pedigree.

Why bring your Royal Enfield to us

A real RE specialist, independent rates.

Iron Custom Motors is an independent Royal Enfield workshop in São Domingos de Rana, Cascais. We service the full modern line-up — the J-platform 350 singles, the liquid-cooled 450s, the 648 parallel twins — and we welcome the classics: UCE and pre-unit Bullets, Continental GTs, the older 500s.

Royal Enfield is the oldest motorcycle brand in continuous production, and the people who ride them know exactly why. These bikes are about character, mechanical honesty and a riding experience that doesn't need to be loud to be felt. Our job is to respect that — to keep the bike doing what it was built to do, not to fight its nature with over-complication.

The engineering culture behind the workshop is the same one that earned ICM the AMD World Champions title, a Bonneville land-speed record and the BMW Motorrad Customizing Championship 2023. We bring that standard to a Classic 350 as readily as to a competition build. And because Royal Enfield is one of the most popular custom base bikes in the world — bobbers, scramblers, café racers — there is no shop better placed to turn yours into something personal. See our custom & special projects.

Independent means no dealer mark-up, the freedom to fit OEM or quality aftermarket parts as the job actually requires, and straight talk. Written estimate before the work, written report after.

Specialist tooling

Royal Enfield diagnostics and tools.

The modern Royal Enfield range is fuel-injected — the J-platform 350s and the 648 twins run EFI with an ECU. The classics run carburettors. We are set up for both, which most general workshops are not.

Dealer-level Royal Enfield diagnostics

We read and clear RE-specific ECU fault codes, monitor live sensor data, check fuelling and run the resets the bike needs after service.

EFI and fuel-system work

Throttle-body cleaning and balance, idle and fuelling checks on the 350 and 650 EFI engines — done to the figures, not by feel.

Carburettor tooling for classics

Proper bench work, jet selection and synchronisation for UCE and earlier Bullets, Continental GT 535 and the older 500s.

The right tools for valve and tappet work

Feeler gauges, the correct shims and tappet hardware, and the patience these engines reward. Valve and tappet clearance is central to RE ownership and we treat it that way.

What we do on Royal Enfield

Service. Repair. Build.

From a first scheduled service on a new Hunter 350 to a ground-up Bullet restoration — all of it with Royal Enfield knowledge and the right tools.

01

01 Scheduled service

RE interval service: engine oil and filter, fluids, brake check, chain and fasteners, plus valve/tappet clearance when the schedule calls for it.

02

02 Valve & tappet clearance

Done properly with feeler gauges and correct shims. Central to RE health on both the singles and the 650 twins — neglected, it costs you smoothness, economy and eventually the head.

03

03 Charging & electrical

Regulator-rectifier and charging-system checks on higher-mileage bikes, battery, lighting and accessory wiring. We chase the cause, not the symptom.

04

04 Carburettor & EFI

Carb rebuilds and synchronisation on the classics; EFI cleaning, balance and fuelling checks on the modern 350 and 650.

05

05 Suspension & wheels

Fork seals and oil, rear shock service, sag setup, wheel bearings and tyres. While the wheels are out, our tyre fitting and balancing service sorts new rubber properly in the same visit.

06

06 Oil-leak rectification on classics

The older Bullets and UCE engines are known for oil seepage. We don't chase it with sealant — we find the source, replace seals and gaskets properly and set it right.

07

07 Chain & final drive

Clean, lube and adjust; sprocket inspection and replacement. The cheapest preventive job there is, and one vibration loves to undo over time — so we re-torque the right fasteners too.

08

08 Custom & restoration

Bobbers, scramblers and café racers built from your RE; full restoration of a Bullet from tired to right. See upgrades & tuning and custom.

Typical issues we know

The things these bikes do, checked before they bite.

We know Royal Enfields, so we check the right items proactively rather than waiting for them to strand you.

Valve/tappet clearance drift

Central to every RE. We measure and adjust to spec — the difference between a sweet engine and a rough, thirsty one.

Oil seepage on classics

A known trait of older Bullets and UCE engines. We trace the real source and seal it properly, not cosmetically.

Charging / regulator-rectifier

Higher-mileage symptoms — weak charge, flat batteries. We read the charging system fully before condemning a part.

Fasteners loosened by vibration

RE character includes vibration; over time it backs off bolts. We re-torque the points that matter at every service.

Chain & final-drive wear

Neglected chains chew sprockets and cost many times the price of regular care. We catch it early.

Himalayan 411 first-gen niggles

The early Himalayan had teething issues, addressed over the years. We know the points to check on these.

FAQ

Common questions. (FAQ)

Are you an authorised Royal Enfield dealer?
No — we are an independent Royal Enfield workshop. The advantage is no dealer mark-up and the freedom to fit OEM or quality aftermarket parts. Warranty and recall work must go to an authorised dealer, but scheduled service, repair, valve work, custom and restoration we handle at independent rates with deeper, RE-first attention.
How much does a Royal Enfield service cost?
Scheduled maintenance starts from €150, consumables included (air-filter replacement charged separately). The exact figure depends on the model and interval and is confirmed in a written estimate before any work begins. Hourly rate for other work is €50/hour. See pricing.
Do you do valve / tappet clearance service?
Yes — it's central to RE ownership and we do it properly. For the 650 parallel twin, a clearance check is from €250 and check-plus-adjust from €300. Single-cylinder 350/450 valve work is quoted per model and always confirmed in a written estimate first.
Can you build a custom from my Royal Enfield or restore my Bullet?
Yes. RE is one of the best custom platforms in the world, and restoration is part of who we are. Bring the concept or the tired Bullet and we'll scope it — bobber, scrambler, café racer or a faithful restoration.
Can you import OEM and aftermarket parts to Portugal?
Yes. We source OEM Royal Enfield through the distributor network and aftermarket from Hitchcocks, Powertronic, Hagon, K&N and others. If the part exists for your model, we get it here.
